Have you ever considered what the relationship is like between your sense organs (skin, eyes, ears, nose, mouth) & the sense objects they interact with? Are those healthy relationships? Each one of our sense organs help us explore & understand the world around us, keep us safe & healthy. But what happens when they are not taken care of and the relationship is unwholesome?
Today let’s talk about skin and touch!
Consider the following questions:
● Does your skin interact with the world in a nurturing way?
● Is your skin touched in a loving way, by you & by others?
● Do you apply healthy, non-toxic products on your skin?
OR
● Are you physically harmed, by yourself or by someone else?
● Do you ignore the needs of your skin, exposing it to harsh environments without proper care?
● Does the relationship between your skin and everything that touches it feel healthy?
Consider your skin (our biggest sense organ) a portal to your mind and the rest of your body. Every time something touches your skin, (feels good or feels bad), signals or messages are sent to various parts of your body via your nervous system. Depending on the message, your body will either rest & relax OR fight & protect…even if you are not necessarily aware of it. It’s simply a matter of cause & effect. According to the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, when the effect is harm or conflict, the result is dis-ease.
So, how do we start to pay more attention to our skin and our sense of touch? Here are a few, simple recommendations.
Start your day with a soothing self-massage! Use your favorite massage oil.
-
Self-Massage Body Oil (8oz)$90.50 – $109.50
My go-to massage oils are:
● Ease (for soothing & cooling)
● Joy (for warming & stimulating)
● Comfort (for moisturizing & calming)
It is said, “there is no greater expression of love than anointing ourselves with oil.”
No time in the morning? Before you go to bed at night, warm your favorite oil and lovingly massage your feet and hands. Not only will you be nourishing your skin with healthy oils it needs but you will also be messaging your nervous system that all is well, you are safe, you are loved.
Lastly, let your body be touched with love and respect whether it be by you or another person. Notice how your mind and body feel when your skin is treated well. These simple steps can help you to establish a healthy connection between your skin and what touches it🤍. I want to add, if you have children, especially small children, this is a beautiful way to teach them about their own self-care!
Ayurveda means wisdom/knowledge of life. It is an ancient practice that can be traced back to India. Considered a 6,000 year old healthcare system, Ayurveda is a way of life to experience wholeness & wellness on all levels. With ancient teachings such as Ayurveda, there is much to be learned. I am by no means an expert in Ayurveda. I have been studying and practicing Ayurveda since 2013. My Ayurvedic lifestyle has brought about a profound understanding of unhealthy patterns I’ve had in my life and how I can better take care of myself & my family. Also, I use some of the basic Ayurvedic principles when I formulate my Vital Living Wellness products. I’m excited to share this with you too, so you can thrive and live your best life!
Remember….your body is sacred, feel good in it!
